OKOWAS GIANT STRIDES: ROLE OF ORIENTATION IN TODAYS GOVERNANCE.

By: Ugagaoghene Ogheneyole N.

The last four years of Okowa' s administration has been exceptional and productive with so many uncommon achievements in diverse sectors. Ranging from massive harvest of road projects across Delta State to the revolution in sports inspired by the completed Stephen Keshi stadium and numerous investments made by this government in sports.
We have also seen great impact in housing (Ugbolu affordable housing scheme, conversion of ownership of junior staff quarters), job creation through skilled training and agriculture, small and medium scale grants, vocational centres and revitalization of technical schools, the Delta State Contributory health insurance scheme and huge investment in public hospitals, the storm drainage and upgrade of the airport etc.

No doubt, Sen. Dr. Okowa's led government have delivered on its promises by securing prosperity for all Deltans with another sweet promise of better days ahead.

Yet, there is a very critical area being undermined (unprioritized) by this administration. Without addressing this area, it is very difficult for any state, society or people to grow. It is a constant that determines the effectiveness of every area of development of a people.

Successive governments played politics with it, Governor Okowa paid a little attention to it, but so far, this area has not been fully harnessed.

A people can never grow beyond what they know, the capacity of any person or people is the summation of his knowledge.

           Advertise here:

While Deltans commend Gov. Okowa for his smart initiatives and commitment to building a stronger Delta, there is need for this administration to pay strong attention to public orientation, human resource development  and strategic capacity building in leadership. This government should as a matter of urgency develop means to invest adequately in HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT.

Without consciously investing in the development of our human resources and properly managing/engaging them, the state can not grow beyond the phase it is now.

There is need to raise a generation of very conscious people and key them into the agenda of Government to enable them understand and maximize the dividends of democracy provided through the machinery of SMART agenda.

There is also a big leadership Laguna in the state, we lack young people with the prerequisite training, capacity and proper Orientaion to harness the leadership, political and economic opportunities and foundations laid through successive landmark legacies of Gov. Okowa's smart governance.

His Excellency sir, your effective governance is leaving a big show for Deltans, how do we fit into these shows now and subsequently sustain the tempo after your administration. If not, how do we manage all these success and consolidate on them without the proper Orientaion and adequate preparation

There is also an urgent need to upgrade the Delta State Directorate of Orientaion into a full blown MDA to address the challange of Public Orientaion, human resource development/management and capacity building.

How can public orientation be under a directorate in the 21st century, in this era of intellectual revolution, if a better day ahead must be guaranteed, then Delta state need a population of citizens with the proper Orientaion and mindset to understand and fully key into the direction and visions of government.

This administration in the last four years has been able to provide solutions to our physical infrastructural challanges, we need to considate by building intellectual and mental infrastructures to sustain it.

We are dearly in need of human resources at this moment, Delta State needs a population of Intellectually, ideologically competent, and properly prepared for leadership at all levels with the proper orientation to be able to compete in the committee of states.

These therefore will profit the state if they invest in this area by expanding the orientation platform and properly empowering them to deliver which can only be achieved by operating in the full capacity of a ministry.

This is my little contribution to this government as we prepare for better days ahead.
