At every sector and level of our society today, the major strive among mortals is for leadership and power. People everywhere are in constant struggle to attain positions of leadership and lay hold to power by all means. Yet the greatest dilemma of all time has been the inept understand of its very essence.
After the whole struggle for power and the rigorous struve gor leadership positions, what is it for? Tribes and clans projects their own for positions of power but why do they do that, groups makes sure that their members takes hold of power but why is so.
In all, I believe thtathe very essence of power, positions of leadership and authority is to affect lives, lives if your people, those around you and to better the society where we live in.
This essence is what have been epitomized overtime by Barr. E.A Uzum, a fine emerging leader who has continually touched lives with every little leadership platform he has been privileged to attain.
I was scrolling through my Facebook wall today when I ran into a post made by one Magdalene Onaibre concerning a woman who's husband is currently on prison remand and is in dare need to pay school fees of her children or risk the being thrown out of school.
Looking at the amount needed, it was #23, 000 only to Carter for her four kids, I made a call through Revive Africa Initiative for people to support the woman through this situation no matter how little.
I sent the SOS message to many leaders and friends in my contact list, people read the message and did not respond as I was following up keenly, others made sacastuv statements and some others were just indiifferent about the call but about an hour later, Barr.Eugine Azuka UZUM came online and on reading my post, without asking where the woman came from, he replied that his hands are tied with lots of projects but that not supporting is not an option. I thanked him and informed him that Friday is the deadline, few minutes later he responded that he will pay give the #23,000 being the entire sum needed and that I should come to his house and pick up the money on Friday.
It should be noted that Barr. UZUM is just an appointee who is not contesting for any election and is not holding one of the most juicy positions in the state yet he has touched a lot of lives, he donated to flood victims during our calls for flood victims support, he has facilicitaed appointments for youths around him, personally placed couple of youths in his personal payroll,
Recently he Barr. UZUM has registered good number of youths at different skill acquisition centres and had purchased commercial utility vehicles, starter packs, motorcycles and lots of empowerment materials with the intention of empowering his immediate constituents as a means of bringing good governance closer to them.
What else is the essence of leadership if not to affect the lives of people around you positively and and positively impact on the society where we leave.
The is is the UZUM example, and if every single leader at any capacity understands that that they are leaders to touch lives, then the society will be a better place.
