NANS ZON B REITERATE ON THE TOTAL SHUTDOWN OF ALL THE INSTITUTIONS OF LEARNING IN SOUTH-SOUTH & SOUTH-EASTERN REGION....
Sequel to the Nationwide Rally by the Apex body of Nigerian Students(NANS) today, as part of our support towards Nation building in this daring time. It's a notable fact that education remains the only hope of a common man as its importance to the growth and development of every nation cannot be overemphasised, Hence, the need to revive it as it remains an instrument which can only drive the goals, vision and aspirations of every nation forward as it targets to alleviating poverty, illiteracy and slavery of the common man and provide vehicle to pilot the desires of the people in the right manner and directions.
We as students, are very much aware that ASUU is not asking for much by demanding for the Revitalization of Public Universities and the issue of Universities Staff welfare, dilapidation of structures, lack of basic amenities, unpaid scholarship cum burseries, increment in school fees , incessant strikes among many other Pertinent issues raised by the Union, thus our ultimate resolve to carryout a solidarity Rally in support of their quest and demands for Proper Funding of our Educational System in line with the UNESCO standard.
It is no longer news that the present government in Nigeria ranging from state to federal level has lived on lies and deception as regards to this struggle. shamefully and worrisomely, they reduced the Education budget to 7% in the 2018 budget which calls for sober reflection by some concerned patriots and well meaning citizens and left them to asking if this government truly mean well for her citizens?. We are Perturbed as the end beneficiaries of ASUU struggle and how our government is so cold on the viral issues at hand as regards to our Educational system.
Here in Imo state, the Zonal Secretariat of NANS ZONE B, we have a laughable system that requires a state of emergency and this is also applicable to almost all the states in the south-East and South-South region of the country where our Governors have politicized the system thereby mortgaging the collective destinies, future and hope of the younger generation. It's such a sad moment in our dear nation that we have no choice than to observe some minutes silence on how our stark politicians who we elected to carry our positions of leaderships on trust, have in turn messed up the system we had once celebrated in the 80s and rendered our future dark.
We are also aware of how our leaders once enjoyed Nigeria Educational system under a conducive environment, with much facilities like electricity, good food, nice hostels, enjoyable atmospheres and friendly teachers whose interest is to make sure you learn and pass accurately without resort to extortion and sex for marks.
Today, we are seeing an abandoned sector begging for total scrapping. We are seeing under-funding system, corrupt and quackmarish system full of myiopic thought impulses, imagine in my school FUTO where president Buhari government scraped out school of management Technology that have produced industrial generals and navigators in the Nation, instead of thinking how to reform it and recapture the vision of founding fathers, also intimidation and harassment of the students by some lecturers and staff with wanton failures, sorting, forceful sell of textbooks, rape, expulsion of non-violent activists who want to fight for the students and what have you. How can we progress in such an ugly situation wherein the catalyst of progress and light have been stampeded by some unscrupulous illiterates due to poor Leadership!
Thus, I commend the National Leadership of NANS under the auspices of Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan for this thoughtful and inspiring approach initiated to further contribute our quotas In revitalizing cum salvaging our moribund educational system in Nigeria. I therefore, use this medium to call on all Nigerian Students to remain resilient in this struggle as we shall collectively use our weapon of mass political destruction to terminate the political life span of those that have failed to render to us what that is due to us as a people if they don't hear our cry of total reformation, transformation and resucitation of educational sector.
I wish to also convey my message of appreciations to all the state NANS Leaderships both my colleagues Zonal Leaders, JCC, Senators and all the NANS affiliate bodies who joined this movement for a better tomorrow.
I pray God to reward us all and take us home peacefully as we expect a better outcome in days to come.
Yours In Nation Building!!
Comrade Okereke Godson Bishop C.
Coordinator NANS ZONE B(SE & SS).
